Cold coffee the Greek way, with the addition of vanilla ice cream.

We were recently gifted a beast of a machine; a powerhouse of froth-making which produces the most extraordinary frappé we have ever had. Add to that the addition of amazing Nektar coffee, and you’ve got yourself a very happy situation.

Fancy machines and fancy coffee require fancy frappés. So, here we’ve made a frappé with ice cream. Think of it like a soda float, but better! A perfect summer drink that we think will become your new favourite.
If you don’t happen to have a Kalko Frappe machine or Nektar coffee, you can order them here. In the meanwhile, don’t worry. Any container with a 1 – 2 cup (250 – 500 ml) capacity will work. In a pinch, we have made frappés using mason jars, old mayonnaise jars, and salad dressing shakers. They all work. Alternatively, if you have an electric frother, you can use that. This tends to make a thicker froth layer, which many people enjoy. As for the coffee, we realize that the Nektar frappe coffee really does result in an amazing drink, but if you don’t have it available, any instant coffee will do.
Because of the addition of ice cream, you may not add as much sugar as you would with a normal frappe. The quantity we list gives a coffee which we find just perfect, but experiment to find the level of sweetness that you like.

Frappé float (Φραπέ με παγωτό)
- Kalko Frappe Machine or equivalent or frappé shaker or jar with lid
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 4 - 5 ice cubes
- 2 tsps Nektar frappé coffee or instant coffee
- 2 tsps sugar
- 1/4 cup cold water
- additional cold water
- cold milk, to your preference
- Place 2 scoops of ice cream in a tall serving glass. Top with ice cubes.
- If using your Kalko Frappe Machine, combine, in another glass the coffee, sugar and 1/4 cup cold water. Mix well using your frappe machine until you have created a thick froth. Alternatively, combine the coffee, sugar and water in a frappe shaker or jar, seal well and shake, shake, shake. You will magically create a thick froth. The longer and more enthusiastically that you shake, the thicker and more plentiful your froth will be.
- Pour the froth into the glass which contains your ice cream and ice. Fill the glass or shaker that you have just emptied with a little more cold water. Swish it around so that any remaining froth which is clinging to the sides is mixed into the water. Pour this into your glass. Add as much water as you like, allowing for some room to add milk
